The experience of creating visual maps can also become part of the learning process. For example, the image above unfolded in meaning as I painted. During a systems sensing practice at Collective Transitions, this image was created in response to an inquiry into the elements of “voice, power, and belonging.” At the time, I felt blocked and couldn’t access any information during the systems sensing process. I decided to start painting and drew a thick black “U’ and then the red element came in as a resource. As I painted the rest revealed itself including cracks in the surface so “Power” could then flow like the wind.
